Ubuntu 7.10 (Gusty Gibbon)

The newest version of Ubuntu has been out for awhile but I am deciding to write a blog post about it. This version of Ubuntu comes out after 7.04 and the jump to a even higher version of this OS is a very good thing. I quickly upgrade the OS to the newer version and found there to be some good improvements in the Operating System. They have made many strives in making it user friendly for a user coming from a Windows computer. They have also have a lot of programs already installed on default to make it easy for the new user to get around and they are things that you would normally have to pay for on windows but this update brings manly newer programs to the list of programs advaiable in the repos.

There are a lot more features that they added to the OS between the last version.

Quotaless.com is a free webhost that has recently entered the market and they have a thing that makes them very different from other free host. They offer virtually unlimited webspace and bandwidth. Python

Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It uses a very clear and powerful syntax. The code is easy to read and understand what it means. The interpreter can be a little bit of a hassle but I normally use a python editor to find the bugs in my code but the object oriented part of the language makes it a runner up to C++. The libraries available for this language make it a great choice for any programmer that doesn’t want to use C++ or learn it. The language can make games and other programs. The language is also always being develop by a community and also that cool part being that it is open source for anyone wanting to change it a bit to there own liking.

I haven’t made any GUI with it but I have played with the language off and on for a few months and well I will most likely use it at some point to code a full game with it. The language is the best alternate programming language out there.

Call of duty 4: Modern Combat

 Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat is the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. This installment jumps you out of the ever popular WWII climate and into the world of modern combat. They have created one of the best First Person Shooters (FPS) out right now.  They didn’t lose any of the action or the story-lines that they had in the previous games.

The game has a very well put together story with two story lines that are intertwined together really well. The two stories involve two separate soldiers in two completly different parts of the world. The game-play is fun and has just the right level of difficulty to keep you playing for hours.

The game is out for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game has all the things that would make a FPS fan go crazy and also have them playing for days. The multiplayer is also a really good freature of the game.

Visual Basic

Visual Basic is created by Microsoft. One of the few things Microsoft has done right. Basic is a good solid language but Microsoft has built there own version of it. They aren’t the only company to be making there own version of Basic like; DarkBasic, Gambas and most likely many more. The Basic languages is very user friendly and easy on the eyes you can easily find out what the code is doing just by reading it. I am using basic in my class and well it was a lot better than I thought.

I have used all of them and they all have there ups and down. Visual Basic and Darkbasic both have companies that support them. Gambas doesn’t its open source so it is always being updated.

Back to Visual Basic (VB) you can get it for free from Microsoft and the free version isn’t that bad and well you should try it if you use Windows and well it can be used by people that can understand html or any languages like it.

My final verdict is to atleast try it. If for only that fact that it is a free windows product and they give it some attention. The language is one of the best Basic styled langauages I have used.  

Sony needs to support Indie Game Developers

Sony needs to follow Microsoft in that they need to support more small game companies on there PS3. So that there will be a lot of games for it quickly and then when big games come out for it. There will be more than one reason to buy the PS3 and they also need to support more things on the PS3 and make it as much like a PC that you can use on you TV. Also indie developers would push the bigger companies to make more innovative games. That would in turn make the games for the PS3 better than the other consoles games out there.

Korn-Untitled

The newest Korn Album came out in 2007. The album is a whole new sound for Korn and shows they are maturing as a band which is an awesome thing they also have yet again some awesome songs on there. Songs like Evolution, Kiss and Hold on. These songs have some unusual deepness to them that I haven’t seen in Korn the deepest song on there last album was Coming Undone and that wasn’t as deep as they could of been. This album also shows the softer side to Korn that fans haven’t really seen before. 

ReactOS

ReactOS is a operating system that is a free as in beer OS. That has the ability or goal at least to run Windows programs on it. The OS is in alpha stage still but is getting very close to beta. The OS is also available to VMware users so you don’t have to actually install the OS onto your hardware. I have VMware’d it on my Ubuntu computer it runs ok it is not really that fast because my computer doesn’t have enough resources to run both OS at the same time without lag. I think that this is defiantly better than using WINE as it actually is a closer version of Windows and not just a program for getting Windows programs to run on your Linux box. The project has a while to go before it is completely use able but I would say keep your eyes on it if you don’t want Windows or Linux or Mac OS. This will be your choice of OS if you also if you hate paying for Windows but you love your games a lot.

It looks like Windows and you do all the same things. That you do on your Windows computer there are some changes like a Program manager and there are some Unix and OS/2 features. So you get the best of all worlds this OS could possibly become the OS of the Future that is if Microsoft doesn’t try to kill the project.

EVE Online Game Review

EVE Online is a new Scifi based MMORPG. In this game you play as a ship captain of a space ship the game takes some getting use to as this is a completly new style of game becaues you don’t actualy see your character all you see of him is a photo and you can write a back story for the character. The game has a high learning curve but once you have it down you can move from place to place. The game inter system movement using a gate system it could take you hours to move from one side to the other. Skill training can take even longer as it will take you real life days to train these skills and there are no levels or skill points to worry about. The game is very open ended and it has a very good story line that is actually controlled by the players. The game will leave you in a state of trying to find the limits. The game is also in a persistent world which turns into you having to dock your ship before logging off.

The game is built on a form of Python called Stackless Python. It is moving to Linux and MAC OS X.

The game gets this rating beacause of instead of levels you have a skill system that takes real life time to “learn” them. The game is awesome in every other way. The game is a persistent world of players which means you have to “Dock” your ship in a space station in-order to insure you don’t get killed while you are log off.

It offers a lot of the same things that other social networking sites do except that you can get paid for doing the somethings that you do on myspace and facebook.
